Look for the Rainbow

Don’t you LOVE things that sparkle and shine?! Well, our new 2020–2021 Annual Catalog has a special surprise just for you: traditional Glimmer Paper with a splash of rainbow color. You get swaths of Bermuda Bay, Blackberry Bliss, Granny Apple Green, Magenta Madness, and Mango Melody on two 12" x 12" (30.5 x 30.5 cm) thin glittered sheets.

To demonstrate with it, cut this rainbow-licious paper with dies for easy, glittery accents—possibly using smaller sections of a single color. Or cut pieces that display multiple colors for an intense ombre effect. It’s like having a pack of colors on two sheets.

Our artist added shimmery die-cut letters to a card, created a background on another card, and used Rainbow Glimmer Paper to add depth and pizzazz to a birthday tag. What can you make with this fun and fancy paper? We think “the sky’s the limit”!

P.S. This paper coordinates with the Artistry Blooms Suite (AC p. 130) plus many of our Designer Series Paper and cardstock collections. Explore the catalog for so many possibilities!

LITTLE CHANGES, BIG IMPACT

SW_StepItUp_June0220.jpg

How can you take a project from simple to stepped up? It’s as easy as adding an embellishment here and a technique there. Here’s the step-it-up story for our samples.

  • Simple (first sample). Use stamps, ink, paper.

  • A bit stepped up (second sample). Add a Crumb Cake Cardstock layer, Flowers for Every Season Gems, and Rococo Rose 1/2" (1.3 cm) Scalloped Linen Ribbon; spatter the background using a Water Painter and ink.

  • Really stepped up (third sample). Stamp dots and more flowers, and swap the ribbon for Forever Greenery Trim; emboss the background using the Scripty 3D Embossing Folder, and sponge on more color.

You can do the same for any project. Step it up by adding layers, embellishments, and color. What you do is up to you!

Make-It Monday - Comfort and Hope

The world is a bit of a scary place right now. Sending a simple card with a powerful greeting like this can make all of the difference. We need to spread comfort and hope; we need to let people know that we are thinking of them and that we care. One little card can make a big difference, so make a card and send it to someone who you think could use a little pick-me-up!

This card features products from the beautiful Ornate Garden suite and the So Sentimental bundle plus a sneak-peek at the sentiment from a new set in the Annual Catalog that premieres on Wednesday, June 3rd, called Comfort and Hope. Simply beautiful imagery combined with powerful sentiment makes for a truly great card!

CLASSIC STAMPIN’ SPOT TECHNIQUES

The new Classic Stampin’ Spots Assortment on page 147 of the 2020–2021 Annual Catalog is the perfect little ink collection for your stampers. With eight colors from Basic Gray to Granny Apple Green, the lovely array of colors hits the spot.

Here are some fun techniques to prove that some of the best things come in tiny packages.

  • Block Background: Use the spot as a stamp. Turn it over and apply it directly to the paper for the cutest card on the block.

  • Tasteful Texture: To mimic the wood grain of the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper, swipe the spot across the stamps instead of pressing the stamp to the ink.

  • Layered Colors: Use the Stamparatus and apply the darkest colors around the edges of the image. Stamp. Then clean the stamp and apply a lighter color in the center. Stamp again to create the look of a multicolored markered image.

CELEBRATING SUNFLOWERS STEP-BY-STEP

SW_CelebrateSunflowers_create_May0520.jpg

CASUAL
For the first card, stamp the sunflower in Bumblebee ink and the leaves in Old Olive ink, then layer the die cuts to create lovely depth and dimension. Sprinkle a few 2020–2022 In Color Enamel Dots for a little extra “pop.” Then stamp the sentiment in Magenta Madness and you have a happy card in minutes!

AVID
Step it up on the second card with more stamping and by sponging Cinnamon Cider and Old Olive ink on the images. Blend the colors on the cardstock with an Aqua Painter for a nice, even look.

AVID (Mini Paper Pumpkin Box)
For our fanciest stepped-up project, we spritzed a Mini Paper Pumpkin Box with water and Just Jade ink. Next, we embellished the box with lots of fun layers and floral details, including cheerful-looking sunflowers. We finished with a cute baker’s twine bow made using the Flowers for Every Season Ribbon Combo Pack.

VASES FULL OF FUN

SW_LastChanceStamps_create_April2820.jpg

I’d like to share some ideas created with the retiring Varied Vases Stamp Set (item 146644) that you’ll love and maybe even inspire you to grab it before it is gone for good!

  • The Simply the Best card is an excellent way to showcase the possibilities with this set. All the stamps used are from the Varied Vases set.

  • The May Your Heart card uses both the Varied Vases and the Here’s a Card Stamp Set (item 149438). Adding a greeting set always gives you more options!

  • Add a card using only a greeting stamp from the Here’s a Card Stamp Set. The Happy Birthday card gives you a great example of this.

I hope you enjoy these cards and tell me, what are you the most sad to see leaving us after this catalog?

Make It Monday - Bee Healthy

5.4.20_MM_2.jpg

During this time of social distancing, have you noticed that you are making an extra effort to reach out to the ones that you love? This time has allowed me to put more of an emphasis on making and sending cards to connect with loved ones I am not able to physically see. Talk about an unintended benefit of the crazy world we are living in! These beautiful bees are buzzing by to make sure that you’re happy and healthy navigating the quarantine with a simple little “Hello”. The card uses a couple designs of DSP, some stamps and dies, and of course that beautiful ruched ribbon! I challenge you to sit down today, make a card, and send it to someone who is on your mind these days!

LET US INSPIRE YOU

SW_CASE_create_April2120.jpg

Do you need an extra dose of inspiration? Don’t worry—it’s right at your fingertips. All you need is a catalog and a willingness to experiment. Start by flipping through the annual or January–June catalog and pick a project that catches your attention. Then, CASE it (Copy And Share Everything)!

Here’s how it works—you choose one aspect of your chosen inspiration piece and copy it on a new project. We selected the Enjoy the Little Things card from page 125 of the annual catalog as the inspiration piece. Then, we used these CASEing techniques to create three additional projects.

  • Copy the color scheme. The Great Places card uses the same color scheme as the inspiration piece.

  • Copy the technique. The Thanks card copies the technique of the original card by incorporating a die-cut background with separate cut-out pieces added back in.

  • Copy the layout. Take the guesswork out of project design by using the inspiration piece as a template as we did on the Love & Joy card. Simply mimic the design but substitute different stamps, paper, and accessories.

IN STEP WITH BOTANICAL PRINTS

SW_BotanicalPrints_create_April1420.jpg

CASUAL
Easy and fast is the best way to help build confidence. For the first card, layer a selection of beautiful elements from the Botanical Prints Product Medley on the card front. Stamp the sentiment on the die-cut label, pop it up on the card, and you have a stunning card in no time at all.

AVID
For the second card, we stamped the rose hip image and colored it with Watercolor Pencils. We also stepped up the background by adding Pretty Peacock ink with a Sponge Brayer. This was our way to build on an already beautiful card, but see if you can come up with ideas of your own!

ARTFULLY AVID
We couldn’t resist stepping up this card one more time using the emboss resist technique. We stamped the rose hip image in VersaMark ink, sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, and heat set the image with the Heat Tool. Then we colored in the image using ink and an Aqua Painter. We also added some beautiful complexity to the background by cutting the Designer Series Paper in strips and brayering it with Old Olive and Pretty Peacock Classic Stampin’ ink before applying it to the card front.

Cards we Love

SW_Easter_create_April0720.jpg

We have three cards to share today, and each one features a unique tip that you can add to your papercrafting repertoire.

If you’d like a card with simple lines and a subtle touch of color, try the markering technique featured on the Happy Easter card. Simply use Stampin’ Write Markers to color directly on the rubber. This gives you perfect control over the depth of color in your stamped image; it also lets you easily incorporate more than one color for a clean, sophisticated look.

Go bold with Melon Mambo and Pool Party, as we did with our Sweet Friend card. Pro tip: Birthday Bonanza Designer Series Paper isn’t just for birthdays! We love how it makes the Melon Mambo Cardstock pop.

The adorable You Brighten My Day card features the Distinktive Full of Happiness Stamp Set. The varying rubber densities give your image depth and complexity, making it super fun to stamp with.
